Overview
We now require
all teams to enter their team roster on-line in their own Google Docs spreadsheet.
This replaces the GKSSA Player Registration Form that we used previously.
Team Responsibilities Are The Same
- collect and record complete, up-to-date player information
- have each player sign your player roster sheet
- deliver that player roster sheet to the league Registrar before the registration deadline
What’s Different?
- player information from last year’s outdoor season is still in spreadsheet
- player information is entered on-line in each team’s own spreadsheet
- when it’s complete, each team is responsible for printing their roster sheet
FAQ
- What goes on the Coach line (the first line in the player roster grid)?
Enter the name for your team coach or manager in the first line of the player roster.
If this person is also a player registered with your team, just put their first and last name
on this line.
If they’re not also a player, be sure to fill out all other columns on the Coach line as
well, and have them sign it.
- What about the bond holder stuff?
The old team roster form had a place to record your team’s bond holder, but it’s not
needed here. That information is managed separately.
- How do I save the spreadsheet?
To Save the spreadsheet, click the Save Now button near the top-right corner of the spreadsheet’s
working window.
However, since Google Docs is very good at automatically saving things, you might
never need to do this! If the button says Saved and is disabled (grey, unclickable), then your
most recent changes have been saved, and you can just close your browser’s window or tab
to stop working on your team roster.
- What if some of the cells wrap on to two lines?
In general, don’t worry about it, it’ll likely still print fine and be usable.
You can resize one or two columns a bit if you wish, but try to keep the overall width of
the spreadsheet the same or else it may be too squished when you print it.
- What’s with the blank first column?
It won’t stay blank for all players. There are two important conditions we need to know.
a) Whenever you update a returning player’s contact information, type CHANGE in their
first column so we know their registration information is different than last year.
b) When signing a new player who has not previously registered with the GKSSA or OSA,
type NEW in their first column.
- How do I remove a player we aren’t re-signing this year?
The best approach is to select the columns OSA ID through to Phone by dragging through them,
and then pressing the Delete key (or from the spreadsheet’s Edit menu, choose the command Clear selection).
You may then re-use the row to add a new player (it’s also okay to leave it blank).
You don’t have to do anything special to tell us you’re not re-signing someone
from last year; just make sure their name doesn’t appear on your roster.
- How do I change our team name?
Type it in the light green box near the top-left, replacing last year’s team name.
Be precise.
- How can I tell the GKSSA about other updated team information?
At the bottom-right of the spreadsheet window there are buttons for two different
worksheets within this spreadsheet: Team Roster, and Team Info.
Click on Team Info, and enter the updated team information in the appropriate fields.
- Our team has their own web site. Can I include that on our GKSSA team page?
Absolutely, we’ve offered this ability for years.
Some of the on-line spreadsheets accidentally ommitted a slot for this on the Team Info sheet.
If your Team Info sheet doesn’t have that field, just add it yourself, or send
the webmaster a separate note with the URL for your team’s web site.
Other questions...
Just ask! If it’s about Registration, player eligibility, paying team fees, stuff like that,
contact Registrar Maureen.
If it’s about using the spreadsheet, email Webmaster Bill.
