Discipline by Review Committee Member Needed

The GKSSA’s DBR Committee needs one more representative from a Division C or Division A player. No previous experience is necessary and the time involved is not great. If you can use e-mail you can help the GKSSA manage disciplinary matters. To volunteer, or for more information, contact Pierre Vanderhout at .

Volunteers Needed for Canada vs United States

Volunteers are needed to work the U-20 game between Canada and the United States on Wednesday, June 6th at Richardson Stadium (kick-off time is 7PM). If you are interested in helping out, call the SOSA office at 613-546-6642.

Trial Player Permit Rules

The procedure for obtaining a trial permit allowing a player to “play up” a division or two has been revised for the 2007 season. All managers should be familiar with these rules. Failure to follow them correctly may result in forfeiting the games involved.

2006-07 team name changes

As happens each season, there are some new teams and some teams that change names. This is intended to be a short listing of each.

Volunteer to Help a GKSSA Field

There’s a work party at the Ernestown High School field this Saturday, May 5th at 8:30 AM. Volunteers are needed to help with some light repairs on damaged areas of this fine pitch.

If you have a couple of hours to spare please consider spending some of it doing some soccer field maintenance for the benefit of all GKSSA players. If you’ve got spades, rakes, or wheel barrows, bring them! Volunteers should contact Gord Lever lever @ kingston.net, or just show up!

Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and only 120 tickets will be sold for each draw. It’s expected that there will be more raffles for other games throughout the season. For more information, visit the Toronto FC ticket raffle page at the LCFC web site.

2007 Outdoor Season Registration

The team registration meeting for the GKSSA 2007 outdoor soccer season will be held in the Press Room of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour on Tuesday, April 10 at 7PM. Teams interested in participating in this year’s season must provide a deposit of $900 at this meeting on April 10.

We Need More Referees!

Each team registered for the 2007 outdoor season that does not have at least one SOSA certified referee on their roster will be assessed a $200 charge.

The dates of the SOSA-sponsored referee clinic are Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, May 12. Both sessions will start promptly at 9:00 AM and finish at 4:00 PM. You should bring a lunch and be prepared to do some training outside.

You need to register in advance: phone the SOSA office at 613-546-6642 and talk to Joanie. Alternatively, you may e-mail her: jsagriff @ soccer.on.ca.

If you missed the first session, please call SOSA anyway. The referee instructor, Michal Vavro, is willing to hold additional training sessions to accomodate as many people as possible, so perhaps something can be arranged.

Porto’s 22nd Annual Outdoor Senior Soccer Tournament

Kingston’s Porto soccer team invites you to enter your senior men’s or women’s soccer team in their annual tournament, being held this year on June 2nd and 3rd.

They are offering Competitive and Recreational divisions for both men and for women. There will also be a Men’s oldtimer’s division.

For more information, contact the Tournament Coordinator Abel Almeida at (613) 353-2052 or visit the tournament website: www.kingstonsoccertournament.com.

LCFC to Celebrate Soccer Anniversary with Matches in UK

The world’s first football club was founded 150 years ago in Sheffield, UK. They’re now known as Sheffield FC and they’re planning celebrations for their sesquicentennial anniversary. Kingston’s own Limestone City FC will be celebrating along with them this summer by staging an “expedition of football”, and you’re invited!

The LCFC is looking for soccer players to enjoy a unique 10-day soccer experience that will include playing matches against local opposition in Manchester, Liverpool, and Sheffield! The cost of the trip will be around $2,000, including accomodation and air travel departing from Kingston. You will leave Kingston on August 1 and return on the 13th.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Gord Lever or Henk Kuchlein for details. Note that monies for this exciting trip must be received by February 28th.

Certification Clinic for New Referees

If you’ve played senior soccer in Kingston in the last couple of years you know that we have a shortage of referees. There’s lots of men’s and women’s soccer being played throughout the summer, but there simply aren’t enough referees to do all the games.

You can support your local soccer leagues, and community athletics in general, by becoming a senior soccer referee. Take the first step towards that by attending the C4 Referee Course for Adults that starts this Saturday, February 17th! C4 is the entry-level certification for adult referees; there are no pre-requisites for this course. Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to be a paid assistant referee at a senior soccer match.

The course consists of five sessions, each about 2-1/2 hours in length. They will be held at the SOSA office at 1201 Division St., Kingston, in the Kingslake Plaza. If you’re registered with any senior club within SOSA, the cost is only $25 and covers all five sessions. Otherwise, the cost is $75.

The proposed dates are as follows, but there is some flexibility, so even if you can’t make the first of these, please contact SOSA anyway and express your interest. They want referees and will try to accomodate your schedule.

To register, contact SOSA at 613-546-6642 or e-mail Joanie
